Do You Have a Purpose in Life?

What motivates you? What do you intend to achieve? Have you found your purpose? Not someone else's purpose ... your purpose!

Purpose, meaning, motivation
Have you got plans or goals for yourself, your family, your relationships or some other aspect of your life at the moment?

I truly hope you have! It's beneficial to both our physical & mental health to aspire to do a particular thing, to be motivated toward achieving something, to have a goal to strive toward ... to have a purpose

Because, really, without some sort of purpose or intention, what are our minutes, hours, days, weeks, months & years actually for? And what will they be filled with? More mindless social media scrolling or Netflix bingeing? I'm not criticising, because I enjoy both of these activities ... sometimes more than I should! And there's a time & place for trivial relaxation & entertainment, because we all need to switch off from reality at times ... but it's not beneficial if it's consistently the major focus of our day.

Afterall, what we do consistently is what makes us the people we are ... what we do consistently delivers our results (positive or negative) ... what we do consistently helps shape our identity ... what we do consistently determines our successes or failures ... what we do consistently impacts our happiness & satisfaction ... what we do consistently is fundamental to leading a life that we can truly enjoy!

Importantly though, our chosen purpose doesn't have to be earth shattering by anyone else's standards ... & should never be compared to anybody else's purpose or goals!

As you read this, you can just allow yourself to understand that we're never in competition with anybody else. Never! We're only ever in competition with the person we were yesterday.

Your purpose may be to walk or run a certain distance in a specific time, to run your first marathon or complete a triathlon. It could be to complete a short course you started last year, start cooking lessons so you can whip up your favourite Thai cuisine like a professional or even go back to University or College for a complete career change. Perhaps it might be focusing on becoming a more patient parent, wife or son/daughter to your ageing parents. Or it may be to lose the weight that you gained by comfort eating during Covid, overindulging while you were on that fabulous holiday (like most of us do!) or mindlessly eating at night when you get home from the stressful job that you hate. It could even be to broaden your knowledge by reading more books, listening to more podcasts or maybe putting pen to paper yourself.

Your purpose, the things that motivate you, are yours & yours alone. They aren't for the judgement or ridicule of others & they shouldn't be compared to the purpose that other people create for themselves. We are all unique individuals with our own abilities, interests, experiences, histories & personalities ... & our purpose reflects all of those things.

Life is not a competition with others, the only competition we should be concerned about is the competition with the person we used to be.

Purpose, meaning, goals, intention
So, just allow yourself to contemplate how you would like to enhance yesterday's version of you. And contemplate what you would like your purpose to be for the rest of this year, or even just today, the next week or the month. The mere act of contemplation is going to calm your mind & spirit.

Allowing your mind to wander ... to access the creative power of your subconscious mind ... & then to slowly flow back into conscious awareness again ... will reveal new ideas, thoughts, solutions & insights ... it will reveal the purpose that you need at this point in time ... & yet, could not see before ...

And now, just allow yourself to contemplate ... what your purpose may be ...

That's right ...
