Who Has Control Of Your Life?

Image
Do you accept responsibility for the good, bad & ugly of your life? Or do you blame others? What's your perception regarding the level of control you have over your life? How much control do you feel you have over the events that influence you, your happiness, your success? If you're facing some type of challenge in life, do you feel as though you have control over the outcome or that it's in the hands of outside forces? Your approach to life, & perception of these things, refers to your locus of control & whether it's internal or external. It can impact your propensity to respond or react, motivation to take action & your personality. If you attribute success to your own efforts, believe you have significant control over what happens to you & take responsibility for your actions, you possess an internal locus of control. You would also be less influenced by other people's opinions, perform better when allowed to work at your own

Why Aren't We Grateful When Life Is Good?

Image
Do you only experience gratitude for the positive aspects of your life when things take a turn for the worst? Are you stuck in your past or constantly living in the future? Covid recently struck in our house & I’m writing this while still recovering from the damn virus that’s impacted the world for much longer than I think anyone ever imagined it might. My husband & I managed to dodge the Covid bullet as most of our family succumbed to it over the past few months but, alas, our stealthy avoidance tactics eventually failed us! And as we’ve been alternating between sleeping more than we ever have & experiencing insomnia; regularly coughing up a lung (lucky we have two!); wondering how much mucus the  human nose can actually produce (I googled & apparently it’s about 1 litre!!!); contemplating the exact time that our heads may explode (thankfully, neither of us got that one right!); having the attention span of a goldfish (hello brain fog) & binge watching a variety of

Challenge Your Inner Critic to Improve your Self-Esteem

An issue that significantly impacts our lives is our level of  SELF-ESTEEM . Even when we don't articulate low self-esteem as a major issue for us, we can still communicate it indirectly both verbally & non-verbally. And we regularly list higher self-esteem as one of the benefits we would enjoy if we could just fix our damn problems - "My self-esteem will improve when I can find another job", "My main reason for losing weight is to feel better about my self-worth", "I'll feel better about myself when I don't drink so much". Or, for some people, it's quite obviously a major problem - "I've always felt that I'm not good enough, not smart enough, not enough. I've always had low self-esteem." Self-Esteem is a reflection of how we see ourselves & how worthy we feel. It's a self- evaluation of how we're performing in various areas of our life. And I think we all know how negatively biased som

Are You a Buffalo or a Cow?

Image
What is your approach to problems or difficulties when they arise in life? Are you a Buffalo or a Cow ? This may seem like a weird question but stick with me, it will be worth it!  How do you react or respond (because they are totally different approaches) to challenges, problems or difficulties that life throws your way?  Do you approach them like a buffalo or a cow? Let's start with the cow ..  So, the herd is grazing contentedly in the paddock when  they hear the rumblings of thunder in the distance, with every 'boom' seeming closer & closer. They look up from the lush, green grass they were focused on just a moment ago, to see & feel a storm approaching. What do they do? They have a chat, discuss it amongst themselves & react by turning & running away from the storm as fast  as they can! Avoid,  avoid, avoid .. that's their method of trying to cope with a storm. And how successful is this f
