The Power of Yes & No

Image
Yes & No are just two little words ... aren't they?  Or can they impact your health & happiness more than you've ever imagined? I wonder when you will realise the power that these two simple little words - YES & NO - have over your life, your happiness, your health? I wonder when you will realise that saying YES to something really means you are saying NO to something else? I wonder when you will realise that regularly saying YES to mindlessly eating a whole bag of chips while sitting on the couch binge watching Netflix ... is saying NO to the ideal, healthy weight you'd like to be ... is saying NO to how you want to feel about yourself & your body ... is saying NO to experiencing positive self-talk. I wonder when you will realise that saying YES to mindlessly eating chocolate to comfort yourself when you feel sad, mad or even glad ... is saying NO to feeling comfortable in your favourite pair of pants ......

Are You a People Pleaser? Learn how to STOP it NOW!

Image
Is people pleasing impacting your life more than you deserve? Do you want to STOP doing it? It may be easier than you think! Saying: Of course I can drive you to the airport tomorrow, I'll just start work late. Reality: you have a deadline looming & a tonne of work to do still.  Saying: Yes, I can help you cook for the party. Reality: you have to work all week & take the kids to sport on the day of the party.  Saying: I'm sorry, it's my fault. Reality: whatever you're apologising for had absolutely nothing to do with you at all. Are you a people pleaser ? Do you constantly put other people, their opinions, their needs, their time & their feelings ahead of your own? Do you say yes when you really should, & need, to say no? Do you agree with people even though your opinion is vastly different to theirs? Do you frequently apologise for things that aren't your fault? Do you adjust your per...

Failure is NOT a dirty word!

Image
There’s no need to fear failure, because failure is evidence of growth & is a stepping stone toward success. “Anyone who has never made a mistake, has never tried anything new.” - Albert Einstein Are you afraid of failing? Not just afraid of failing at big things, but small things too? Fear of failure shackles us to the version of ourselves that we are at this point in time. Fear of failure limits our growth & development personally & professionally. Fear of failure stops us from strengthening our resilience. Fear of failure keeps us stuck right where we are! Fear of failure stops us from taking risks (calculated & uncalculated), stepping out of our comfort zone, gaining new skills, meeting new people, being exposed to new opportunities, experiencing new adventures, engaging in life fully. Fear of failure puts the brakes on us becoming a fuller, happier, more diverse version of ourselves! So many of us look upon failure as something to be avoided. We think that if we f...

Why Can't I Stick To My Resolutions Each Year?

Image
Do you set resolutions or intentions & never stick to them? It's all about the action , not the ' should '! As we are now well & truly into the second half of 2022, it's valuable to check in with how the Resolutions   or Intentions (which is a term I think is slightly more motivating) that we set at the beginning of the year are progressing? Whatever term we've used, have we stuck with them or, like 25% of people globally, did we stumble within the first week & then just give up because it all seemed too hard? Setting resolutions or intentions at any time of year is an extremely powerful practise . It can move us into a positive mindset, increase our self-esteem & make us feel more empowered as we tend to adopt an internal locus of control whilst setting them. We create a therapeutic cocoon of possibility, growth & positivity within ourselves. But, quite often, a week or two later the wheels st...

Let's Just STOP Being Overly Judgemental

Image
Are you overly judgemental? Do you ever show compassion or empathy toward yourself, or others? Do you find yourself forming instant opinions & judgements about other people, without even a moment’s thought about why they behave the way they do? I don’t know about you, but I’ve always been a real people-watcher & have become more so over the last few years. It can provide hours of entertainment! I just love to sit & watch people go about their daily lives, whilst pondering what’s going on in their minds, in their backgrounds.   What are the stories playing on a repeat loop in their minds? What are they telling themselves about their life circumstances - their today, their yesterdays & their tomorrows? Are they engaging in positive or negative self-talk - beating themselves up or encouraging themselves? How are they feeling about themselves - confident, despondent or perhaps indifferent? What does it feel like to be them - physically & emotionally? What does the w...

Do You Have a Purpose in Life?

Image
What motivates you? What do you intend to achieve? Have you found your purpose? Not someone else's purpose ... your purpose! Have you got plans or goals for yourself, your family, your relationships or some other aspect of your life at the moment? I truly hope you have! It's beneficial to both our physical & mental health to aspire to do a particular thing, to be motivated toward achieving something, to have a goal to strive toward ... to have a purpose .  Because, really, without some sort of purpose or intention, what are our minutes, hours, days, weeks, months & years actually for? And what will they be filled with? More mindless social media scrolling or Netflix bingeing? I'm not criticising, because I enjoy both of these activities ... sometimes more than I should! And there's a time & place for trivial relaxation & entertainment, because we all need to switch off from reality at times ... but it's no...

Abundance or Scarcity - What is Your Default Mindset?

Image
Are you guided by abundance or scarcity, fear or courage? And if it's fear, how can we change it? Do you have an abundance or scarcity mindset? Is your default mode for reaction or response based on a fear of what you perceive yourself, or your life, to be lacking? Or is it based upon appreciating & acknowledging everything that you do really have in your life &, therefore, behaving courageously? When we experience life through the lens of scarcity we are laser focused on everything that’s missing, all the little things we don’t have, every seemingly insurmountable obstacle that’s been placed in our path. Our approach to everything is based upon not having enough … not enough money, not enough knowledge, not enough experience, not enough support, not enough time, not enough, not enough, not enough.   And this frame of mind pervades every action we take & every decision we make. If we believe we don’t have enough money, we won’t invest in that course we’d love to do, be...
